Argumentation Used in the Sex Education Issue in the Dallas Independent School District

Description: The primary purpose of the study was to identify and describe the arguments used in the sex education controversy in the Dallas Independent School District. The issue was examined as a debate and as a social movement promoted and resisted by community rhetoricians. Arguments were elicited from interviews with rhetoricians on both sides of the issue.

The Relationship Between Personally Perceived Autonomy and the Professional Activity of Secondary School Teachers

Description: The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of determining the relationship between personally perceived autonomy and the extent of professional activity of secondary teachers. The two methods of determining this relationship were questionnaire completion and personal interview. It was assumed that the two methods complemented one another in the determination of findings.

An Application of Readability Techniques to Prediction of Difficulty Level of Shorthand Dictation Materials

Description: It was the purpose of this study to determine whether one or a combination of adult readability formulas, when applied to shorthand dictation material, could predict difficulty, as well as to develop a shorthand formula for this specific purpose. In addition, the questions of comparative reliability and practicability were tested with respect to the two kinds of formulas as applied to the shorthand material.

Analysis of the Relationship of Selected Abilities to Performance on a Gross Motor Task at Various Stages of Task Practice

Description: The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of determining the relationship of selected abilities to motor skill performance. Specifically this study analysed the performance trend on a gross motor task to determine the degree of relationship between the abilities: agility, balance, depth perception, flexibility, reaction time and speed of arm movement, and strength and performance scores on a wall volley task at successive stages of task practice.
