Preliminary Report on Lost Creek Schroeckingerite Area, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: Introduction: This report is a summary of the field work at the Lost Creek schroeckingerite deposit, Sweetwater County, Wyo. from July 1 through November 22, 1952. The objectives of field work at Lost Creek during the report period were to obtain additional data for calculating tonnage and grade and to obtain additional information on the controls and localization of schroeckingerite. Preliminary Report of the Results of Reconnaissance for Uraniferous Materials in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming

Description: From introduction: During three months of the summer of 1952, a geologic and radiometric reconnaissance examination for uraniferous materials in the peripheral parts of the Powder River structural basin in northeastern Wyoming (fig. 1) was made by the Survey on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The purpose was to find, describe, locate, and sample deposits of uraniferous or radioactive materials other than those in the central part of the Powder Rive… more

Uranium Deposits in Oolitic Limestone Near Mayoworth, Johnson County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: The uranium deposits of the Mayoworth area, Johnson County. Wyo., are in oolitic limestone at the base of the Sundance formation of Late Jurassic age. The uranium mineral has been identified as metatyuyamunite, a hydrous calcium uranium vanadate, that coats joints and fractures and replaces calcite in both the cement and the oolites. The known deposits of the area are of sub-ore grade, have a high lime content, and are not of economic importance at this time.

Reconnaissance for Uranium in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming

Description: Abstract: A reconnaissance was made of a large part of the Powder River Basin, Wyoming, during the summer of 1952 to search for uranium deposits in parts of the basin other than the Pumpkin Buttes area. No uranium deposits of economic interest were found, but some rocks of the Tertiary Fort Union formation and the Cretaceous Inyan Kara group were found to be sufficiently uraniferous to justify further search in rocks of these units. Analyses of samples of sandstones, baked shales, and siltstone… more

Preliminary Report on Results of Field Investigations for Uraniferous Deposits in the Pumpkin Buttes Area, Johnson and Campbell Counties, Wyoming

Description: From introduction: Geologic mapping was done in the Pumpkin Buttes area, Johnson and Campbell Counties, Wyoming, during the summer of 1952 on behalf of the Atomic Energy Commission. The objectives of the work were: to find uranium deposits, to study their distribution, habit, and occurrence, and to use such knowledge as guides in outlining areas favorable for mineralization.

Airborne Radioactivity Survey of the Red Desert Region, Sweetwater County, Wyoming

Description: From abstract: An airborne radioactivity survey of a selected area in the Red Desert, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, containing outcrops of radioactive lignites and shales of known surface extent and uranium content, was flown on flight lines at three levels, respectively 250, 500, and 1,000 feet above the ground and spaced at one-quarter mile intervals. Measurements from three identical dual-channel radiation detectors were simultaneously recorded to obtain data at various distances from natural … more

Preliminary Report on Uranium-Bearing Pliocene (?) Rocks in the Split Rock Area, Central Wyoming

Description: From abstract: A sequence of slightly radioactive Pliocene(?) rocks in the Split Rock area of central Wyoming is at least 600 feet thick, underlies an area of more than 25 square miles, and consists of alternating beds of tuffaceous shale, sandstone, and pumicite. Only a small part of the section has been examined. In addition to the uranium content of the strata, there has been secondary concentration of uranium in brecciated limestone similar to spring deposits that could be of Pliocene or Pl… more

Mathematical simulation of contaminant distribution in and around the uranium mill tailing piles, Riverton, Wyoming

Description: As part of the Research and Development phase of the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) program, the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL) has set itself the goal of explaining the physico-chemical evolution of the Riverton site on the basis of the already collected field data at the site (Tokunaga and Narasimhan, 1982, Smith and Moed, 1982; White et al., 1984). The predictive aspects as well as addressing the question of critical quantity of field data have to be considered during the … more
