Uranium-Bearing Copper Deposits in the Coyote Mining District, Mora County, New Mexico

Description: Abstract: Uranium-bearing copper deposits occur in steeply dipping beds of the Sangre de Cristo formation of Permian and Pennsylvanian age south of Coyote, Mora County, New Mexico. Detailed mapping and sampling of these deposits indicate that they occur in carbonaceous zones in shales and arkosic sand-stones. Samples contain as much as 0.067 percent uranium. A yellow radioactive mineral found in the deposits was identified as metatyuyamunite. All of the samples were collected near the surface a… more

A Comparative Study of Three Methods of Teaching Tumbling

Description: This investigation compares the results of three different methods of teaching tumbling, the Trampoline Method, Mental Practice, and the Traditional Method. The study also investigates whether sex and ability level significantly affect the results of the teaching methods. The subjects were the ninety members of the junior-level gymnastics classes for physical education majors at New Mexico State University during the fall and spring semesters of the 1972-1973 school year. There were forty-five … more

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of Tertiary Rock in the Central San Juan Basin, New Mexico

Description: Three formations in the Tertiary of the San Juan Basin were investigated for their uranium favorability. They are the Ojo Alamo Sandstone, the Nacimiento Formation, and the San Jose Formation. The study comprised a literature survey and a basin analysis, which consisted of subsurface lithofacies, stratigraphic, and radiometric mapping. Field work in preparation for the subsurface analysis consisted of examination of outcrop and measured sections, surface radiometric traverses, and checking of r… more

Preliminary Study of Favorability for Uranium of the Sangre de Cristo Formation in the Las Vegas Basin, Northeastern New Mexico

Description: This report presents the results of a preliminary study of the uranium favorability of the Sangre de Cristo Formation (Pennsylvanian-Permian) in the Las Vegas basin, northeastern New Mexico. Because known uranium deposits are confined mainly to the Sangre de Cristo, the following discussions are limited to this formation. The study focuses on sedimentologic and stratigraphic characteristics relevant to uranium deposition. The investigation was conducted by Bendix Field Engineering Corporation (… more

Evaluation of the Flood Potential of the South House (Blinebry) Field, Lea County, New Mexico

Description: The Blinebry (Permian) formation of eastern Lea County, NM has a long history of exploitation for petroleum and continues even today to be a strong target horizon for new drilling in the Permian Basin. Because of this long-standing interest it should be classified of strategic interest to domestic oil production; however, the formation has gained a reputation as a primary production target with limited to no flooding potential. In late May of 1999, a project to examine the feasibility of waterf… more

The Copper and Uranium Deposits of the Coyote District, Mora County, New Mexico

Description: From abstract: The copper and uranium-vanadium deposits of the Coyote district, Mora County, N. Mex., are confined to the lower 2,000 feet of the Sangre de Cristo formation of Pennsylvanian and Permian age. A narrow belt of deposits in steeply dipping or overturned rocks extends for 7 miles along Coyote Creek south of Guadalupita. Earlier studies showed that the copper deposits contained uranium, but both the reserves and the uranium content of the copper-bearing shale are too low to permit the… more
