Low cost solar collector of a packed bed design
Description:
Two solar collectors using a pebble bed design were constructed and tested using air as the heat exchange media. One collector had pebbles of metallurgical grade coke, and the other had a frothy volcanic material called scoria. The highly irregular surface of such vesicular material should increase the path distance for the air and the surface exposed cavities should give some honeycomb effect.
