Convective oxygen transport during development in embryos of the snapping turtle Chelydra serpentina

Description: This article describes a study investigating the maturation of convective oxygen transport in embryos of the snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina). Measurements included: mass, oxygen consumption, heart rate, blood oxygen content and affinity and blood flow distribution at 50%, 70% and 90% of the incubation period.

Cardiac and metabolic physiology of early larval zebrafish (Danio rerio) reflects parental swimming stamina

Description: Article describes experiment in which mature adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) were subjected to a swimming performance test that allowed separation into low swimming stamina or high swimming stamina groups in order to determine if inherited traits that support enhanced swimming stamina in offspring appear only in juveniles and/or adults, or if these traits actually appear earlier in the morphologically quite different larvae.

A polar insect's tale: Observations on the life cycle of Parochlus steinenii, the only winged midge native to Antarctica

Description: Article asserts that Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands include some of the world’s most extreme and pristine terrestrial habitats. The authors studied the habitat preferences and the life history of P. steinenii in Lake Kitiesh, Fildes Peninsula, King George Island over the austral summer seasons from 2014 to 2019, during short (several weeks) field expeditions.

Metabolic reprogramming underlies cavefish muscular endurance despite loss of muscle mass and contractility

Celebrating 20 Years of Genetic Discoveries in Legume Nodulation and Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation

Description: This article is a review cataloging and contextualizing all of the plant genes currently known to be required for SNF in two model legume species, Medicago truncatula and Lotus japonicus, and two crop species, Glycine max (soybean) and Phaseolus vulgaris (common bean).
