Influence of ordered L1₂ precipitation on strain-rate dependent mechanical behavior in a eutectic high entropy alloy

Description: This article focuses on Al0.7CoCrFeNi, a lamellar dual-phase (fcc + B2) precipitation-strengthenable eutectic high entropy alloy. The back-stresses from the coherent L12 precipitate were insufficient to cause improvement in twin nucleation, owing to elevated twinning stress under quasi-static testing. However, under dynamic testing high density of twins were observed.

Corrosion Behavior of Selectively Laser Melted CoCrFeMnNi High Entropy Alloy

Description: The article focuses on a study that widens the toolbox to manufacture HEAs with exceptional corrosion resistance by additive manufacturing. CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys (HEAs) were additively manufactured (AM) by laser powder bed fusion and their corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was studied by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. A systematic study of AM CoCrFeMnNi HEAs’ porosity under a wide range of laser processing parameters was condu… more

Ordering-mediated local nano-clustering results in unusually large Hall-Petch strengthening coefficients in high entropy alloys

Description: This article reports a dramatic increase in the grain boundary strengthening or Hall-Petch coefficient, K, by systematically investigating the effect of Al addition on tensile yield strength in CoFeNi and CoCrFeNi high entropy alloys (HEAs) or complex concentrated alloys (CCAs). Such a trend is attributed to the ordering mediated nano-clustering in Al containing HEA/CCAs.

On Comparing the Similarity and Dissimilarity Between Two Distinct Vehicular Trajectories

Description: This article studies the problem of comparing the similarity and dissimilarity between two distinct vehicular trajectories by proposing an adjacency-based metric. This approach has a broad application in building truthfulness by comparing the similarity between two vehicles and evaluating the dissimilarity between two distinct paths in hazardous materials transportation.

Dual-Wavelength Terahertz Metasurfaces with Independent Phase and Amplitude Control at Each Wavelength

Description: This article describes the design of a dual-wavelength achromatic metasurface-based deflector deflecting the incident wave to the same direction at two selected wavelengths, which has circumvented the critical limitation of strong wavelength dependence in the planar metasurface-based devices caused by the resonant nature of the plasmonic structures.

Effect of pressure quenching on the structures and properties of borosilicate glasses: Insights from molecular dynamics simulations

Description: Article describes how processes including hot compression, cold compression and subsequent annealing on the structures and properties are investigated and compared. They found that applying pressure up to 10 GPa at the glass transition temperature led to permanent densifications and a dramatic increase of elastic moduli by 90%, while thermal annealing reversed the increase and applying pressure at ambient temperature did not increase the modulus.

Light-Controlled Cell–Cell Assembly Using Photocaged Oligonucleotides

Description: Article asserts that while techniques that allow one to control the arrangement of cells and direct contact between different cell types have been developed that expand upon simple co-culture methods, specific control over heterojunctions that form between cells is not easily accomplished with current methods, such as 3D cell-printing. In this article, DNA-mediated cell interactions are combined with cell-compatible photolithographic approaches to control cell assembly.
