Discovery of higher-order topological insulators using the spin Hall conductivity as a topology signature

Description: This article shows a connection between spin Hall effect and HOTIs using a combination of ab initio calculations and tight-binding modeling. The model demonstrates how a non-zero bulk midgap spin Hall conductivity (SHC) emerges within the HOTI phase. This work guides novel experimental and theoretical advances towards higher-order topological insulator realization and applications.

Towards Deep Integration of Electronics and Photonics

Description: This is a review of applications of polariton modes related to the design and fabrication of electro-optical circuits. The emphasis is made on surface plasmon-polaritons which have already demonstrated their value in many fields of technology. Other possible quasiparticles as well as their hybridization with plasmons are discussed.

Scaling Breakdown: A Signature of Aging

Description: In this article, the authors prove that the Lévy walk is characterized by bilinear scaling. This effect mirrors the existence of a form of aging that does not require the adoption of nonstationary conditions.
