The Heart of Librarianship: A Literature Review of Outreach in Academic Libraries

Description: Presentation that provides a summary of the literature on library outreach and indicates how the literature review has impacted outreach developments at the UNT Libraries. Outreach has a positive impact on student success, but a clear definition of what outreach is looms beyond the literature. Intermixed with marketing, advertising, broader engagement methods, and social media use, outreach has become a catch-all term for activities that bring awareness to library resources, services, programs,… more

Seeking Mental Health Support Among College Students in Video-Based Social Media: Content and Statistical Analysis of YouTube Videos

Description: This article presents a study that aims to identify strategies for using video-based social media to combat stigmatized diseases, such as mental health, among college students. The authors identify effective strategies for designing video-based social media content for supporting college students’ mental health. Results show that the videos where individuals share their personal stories, as well as experiential knowledge (ie, tips and advice), engaged more viewers in both the short term and lon… more

Early Oxidative Transformations During the Biosynthesis of Terrein and Related Natural Products

Description: This article combines heterologous expression and in vitro studies to show that the flavin-dependent monooxygenase (FMO) TerC catalyzes the initial oxidative decarboxylation of 6-HM. The results demonstrate that the biosynthetic pathways of terrein and related(polychlorinated) congeners diverge after oxidative decarboxylation of the lactone precursor that is catalyzed by a conserved FMO and further indicate that early dehydration of the side chain is an essential step.

A rapid thioacidolysis method for biomass lignin composition and tricin analysis

Description: This article developed a modified, rapid higher throughput thioacidolysis method to analyze both lignin monomeric composition and tricin content in the lignin polymer. The results demonstrate that the modified method can be used for rapid, high-throughput, and reliable lignin composition and tricin content analyses for screening transgenic plants for cell wall modifications or in large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

A simple design of mechanically robust, recyclable, and biodegradable composite films with high thermal stability and fluorescent properties

Description: This article proposes a strategy for preparing advanced soy protein (SP)-based films by solution casting of SP and hydroxyl and primary amine-containing hyperbranched polysiloxane (HPSA). It offers a simple methodology for the design of mechanically robust, recyclable, and biodegradable composite films, which have potential applications in the fabrication of high-performance, high-transparency, and anti-counterfeiting packaging materials.
