Low-Energy Atomic Processes Including Ones Involving a Positron

Description: Data management plan for the grant, "Low-Energy Atomic Processes Including Ones Involving a Positron." The proposed research in theoretical atomic physics involves few-body systems of charged particles, especially ones that involve the antiparticle of the electron, which is a positron. One of these systems is the positronium negative ion, which is comprised of two electrons and a positron. The exotic positronium atom is similar to the conventional hydrogen atom, but the positive charge in the a… more

Effect of MS222 on Hemostasis in Zebrafish

Description: Article studying the effect of MS222 on hemostasis in Zebrafish. The authors performed various assays and find that Hct values, the amount of blood collected, bleeding, and coagulation differ significantly between anesthetized and nonanesthetized fish. These results suggest that blood collected after MS222 anesthesia of zebrafish has altered hemostasis.

Does the left aorta provide proton-rich blood to the gut when crocodilians digest a meal?

Description: Article measuring blood parameters in the left aortae and atria of crocodilians. The findings do not support the hypothesis that a R–L shunt serves to deliver CO2 for the gastrointestinal system after feeding in crocodilians.

Expanding the Equilibrium Solubility and Dissolution Thermodynamics of Benzoic Acid in Aqueous Alcoholic Mixtures

Description: This article determines the equilibrium solubility of benzoic acid in water and ethanol, as well as in nine {ethanol (1) + water (2)} mixtures from T = (293.15 to 323.15) K. The thermodynamic results presented could be useful in optimizing different physical and chemical processes involving benzoic acid in mixed aqueous-ethanol media.

Multimodal switching of a redox-active macrocycle

Description: This article looks at molecules that can exist in multiple states with the possibility of toggling between those states based on different stimuli. They have potential for use in molecular switching or sensing applications. The coupling of two different oxidation states with two different charge-transfer states within one macrocyclic scaffold delivers up to five different optical outputs. This molecular switching manifold exploits intramolecular coupling of multiple redox active substituents wi… more

Uncoupling system and environment simulation cells for fast-scaling modeling of complex continuum embeddings

Description: Article describes how continuum solvation models are becoming increasingly relevant in condensed matter simulations, allowing to characterize materials interfaces in the presence of wet electrified environments at a reduced computational cost with respect to all atomistic simulations. However, some challenges with the implementation of these models in plane-wave simulation packages still persists, and to address these challenges, the authors present the implementation of a double-cell formalism… more
