Studies on Cell Division, 1. Alpha Radiation as a Division Inhibiting Agent

Description: Report discussing a study aimed at learning about cell division and the effects of radiation alpha radiation on the process of cell division. This was done by correlating changes in the biochemical state of cells and the inhibition of cell division. Materials and methods are included as well as experimental results and data.

Aerosol Collection by Wetted Fiberglass Media

Description: A wet collection system for aerosols has been developed using fibrous media. Tests show the performance to be in accord with recently developed theory of collection by fibrous media. The effects of varying aerosol particle size, particle density, and gas velocity have indicated that inertial impaction is the primary collection mechanism. Three-year operating experience on several full scale plant installations shows reliable performance.

Viscosities and Densities of Fluorolube Oils

Description: Abstract: Since the viscosity-temperature relationships of fluorocarbons are somewhat unusual, when compared to hydrocarbons, for example, it was decided to measure the viscosities, at several temperatures, of various fluorolube oils. The calculation of the viscosity of a blend of oils is at best an uncertain operation, varying considerably with the method used. A comparison of various methods was indicated, in order that reasonably accurate values might be assumed for theoretical composites.… more

Final Report: Production Test No. 305-2-N Experimental Results Obtained From Test Pile Reactivity Measurements on Plutonium

Description: Measurements were taken to provide experimental evidence for determining the feasibility of a proposed method for converting Pu240 to 241 by exposing shielded plutonium to selectively transmitted pile neutrons.
