1/2 Sintering of Mullite-Containing Materials: I. Effect of Composition

Description: Sintering behavior of mullite-containing powders was studied over a range of chemical compositions (Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}/SiO{sub 2} ratio). Densification measurements were made for both liquid phase-containing and solid state systems. Small amounts of liquid phase were observed to have a significant effect on densification rate. A linear relationship was obtained between the percent of theoretical density and the logarithm of time for compositions in the range 73-75 wt% Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}. Currentl… more

2-D time evolution of T/sub e/ during sawtooth crash based on fast ECE (electron cyclotron emission) measurements on TFTR

Description: Electron cyclotron emission measurements taken at 20 locations in the horizontal midplane during a sawtooth crash have been analysed based on the assumption of fast rigid rotation of the plasma. 3-D transient eddy current calculations for the FELIX cylinder experiments

Description: The three-dimensional eddy current transient field problem is formulated first using the U-V method. This method breaks the vector Helmholtz equation into two scalar Helmholtz equations. Null field integral equations and the appropriate boundary conditions are used to set up an identification matrix which is independent of null field point locations. 1987 calibration of the TFTR neutron spectrometers

Description: The {sup 3}He neutron spectrometer used for measuring ion temperatures and the NE213 proton recoil spectrometer used for triton burnup measurements were absolutely calibrated with DT and DD neutron generators placed inside the TFTR vacuum vessel. Accessibility of second regions of stability in tokamaks

Description: Second regions of stability to the ideal ballooning modes have been shown to exist in large-aspect-ratio circular and small-aspect-ratio bean-shaped tokamaks. We report on the existence of these second stability regions in finite-aspect-ratio dee-shaped tokamaks. Accumulated surface damage on ZnS crystals produced by closely spaced pairs of picosecond laser pulses

Description: Excitation of a transparent ZnS crystal by repetitive picosecond dye laser pulses causes an accumulated surface modification leading to optical damage. The onset of the damage is detected by an abrupt increase in the emission of neutral Zn (and possibly S/sub 2/) from the surface. Activation of methane by transition metal-substituted aluminophosphate molecular sieves

Description: Recent experiments in our laboratory have demonstrated that aluminophosphate molecular sieves substituted with cobalt and cobalt/silicon combinations and having the AlPO{sub 4}-34 or AlPO{sub 4}-5 structure activate methane starting at {approximately}350{degree}C. ACTIVE: a program to calculate and plot reaction rates from ANISN calculated fluxes

Description: The ACTIVE code calculates spatial heating rates, tritium production rates, neutron reaction rates, and energy spectra from particle fluxes calculated by ANISN. Description: To determine the activity of zinc in Zn-Al alloys, the electromotive force (emf) of the cell: Zn/ZnCl/sub 2/-KC1 (eut)/Zn,Al was measured at temperatures between 569.5 K (296.5C) and 649.5 K (376.5C).
