Aerial Gamma Ray and Magnetic Survey, Final Report. Volume 1: Rice Lake Quadrangle (Wisconsin), Iron Mountain Quadrangle (Wisconsin/Michigan), Eau Claire Quadrangle (Wisconsin/Minnesota), and Green Bay Quadrangle (Wisconsin)

Description: A high sensitivity airborne radiometric and magnetic survey of the Rice Like, Iron Mountain, Eau Claire and Green Bay 1:250,000 NMTS Quadrangles within the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota. A total of 10,340 line miles of high sensitivity radiometric and magnetic data were collected within these quadrangles. Traverse lines were flown at a spacing of 3.125 miles in an east/west direction at a 18.375 miles seperation. All data were collected utilizing a fixed wing aircraft and over 3,… more

Application of Digital Mapping Technology to the Display of Hydrologic Information A Proof-of-Concept Test in the Fox-Wolf River Basin, Wisconsin

Description: From introduction: This report describes the design and implementation of a prototype water resources information system for the Fox-Wolf River basin...This report also describes the use of the Fox-Wolf information system for an assessment of selected hydrologic conditions in the basin.

Aquatic Biology in Nederlo Creek, Southwestern Wisconsin

Description: From abstract: This report presents the results of biologic investigations by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources during a study of hydrology and water quality in a small drainage basin in the "Driftless Area" of southwest Wisconsin. The investigation included aquatic macrophytes, periphytic and planktonic algae, benthic invertebrates, and trout population dynamics during 1967-78.

Automatic Dilution Gaging of Rapidly Varying Flow

Description: From introduction: The purpose of this report is to develop and evaluate a method to automate the constant-rate-injection technique, described by Cobb and Bailey, with sufficient accuracy and reliability to determine discharge in storm sewers under rapidly varying flow conditions.

Comparison of the Propane-Area Tracer Method and Predictive Equations for Determination of Stream-Reaeration Coefficients on Two Small Streams in Wisconsin

Description: From abstract: "This study was made to identify the best predictive equations for a stream's reareation-rate coefficient. Reaeration-rate information is needed in dissolved-oxygen modeling work, but an actual tracer measurement is not always possible."

Comparison of Tracer Methods and Predictive Equations for Determination of Steam-Reaeration Coefficients on Three Small Streams in Wisconsin

Description: From abstract: Four modified nonradioactive-tracer methods and twenty predictive equations for determination of stream-reaeration coefficients (K2) in three small Wisconsin streams were compared with the radioactive-tracker methods developed by Tsivoglu.

Effects of a Floodwater-Retarding Structure on the Hydrology and Ecology of Trout Creek in Southwestern Wisconsin

Description: Abstract: The primary effect of a floodwater-retarding structure (FRS) on the flow of Trout Creek, Wisconsin, is attenuation of flood peaks. Reduction of flood peaks ranged from 58 to 91 percent during the study period, 1975 to 1979. An inverse relationship exists between sediment concentration and outflow from the FRS during floods. Most sediment stored in the flood pool during floods is released from the reservoir during subsequent reduced discharge. Sediment-trapping efficiency of the FRS wa… more
