Acoustic Noise Tests of Accelerometers and Amplifiers

Description: This report describes a series of acoustic noise sensitivity tests which have been run on accelerometer amplifiers. The test specimens consists of NRX-A1 type components and two additional piezoelectric accelerometers which are being considered for possible application in radiation environments.

Applied Mathematics Division Summary Report, July 1, 1962 Through June 30, 1963

Description: Summaries of the computer programs initiated or modified are listed, and the programs developed for the GUS digital computer complex are described. Information included in bulletins or newsletters on computers is indicated, and the new routines for the IBM-704, IBM-1401, and GEORGE are listed. The computer equipment (including GEORGE) presently available for computations is briefly described. An automatic data processing system (CHLOE) was developed for spark chamber photograph analysis. It use… more

Application of the Variational Method to the Calculation of the Time Dependence of the Neutron Flux in Small Pulsed Slabs, Cylinders and Spheres

Description: The variational method is applied to the monoenergetic time dependent transport equation to obtain a simple relation for the asymptotic decay constant in small pulsed assemblies. The results indicate that flat trial functions may be a reasonable representation of the flux distributions in the thin slab limit. This approach is superior to many of the usual transport approximations. (auth)

Applications of Monte Carlo Calculations to SGR Reactors

Description: Monte Carlo (MC) calculations were made that show that an observed reactivity increase due to fuel rod bowing in the Sodium Reactor Experiment can be accounted for by the accompanying change in the thermal flux distribution. The questionable reliability of calculations with a simplified fuel element model that indicated the same relation prompted the MC calculations. Comparison with experimental results and results calculated by other means established the reliability of the MC calculations. (D… more

A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ROVER-TYPE REACTOR, ITS INHERENT SAFETY PROBLEMS AND TEST PROGRAMS

Description: The Rover type reactor is described briefly, and the problems of Rover flight safety are considered. The safety program is described in some detail, and launch pad accidents and post-operation disposal of the reactor are considered. A poison system will be used during reactor assembly and launch. Characteristics of H.E. and H.E. systems. Quarterly report, July--September, 1964

Description: Data from sieve analyses of HMX and HMX recovered from LX-04-1 has been compiled for correlation to quality parameters. Particle size distributions on HMX received from LRL have been completed along with other HMX lots specified by them. Sieve analysis of recrystallized PETN was obtained using the now normal procedure for HMX. A statistical investigation of production LX-04-1 examined the dependence of density, elongation, and ultimate tensile strength on particle size distributions ({Pi}) and … more

Characteristics of H.E. and H.E. systems. Quarterly report, October--December, 1964

Description: Several samples of HMX to be used in LX-04-1 were particle sized and reported in this report. Most of the lots sized were very similar, with the major differences in the lots being at 2{micro}. Several counts in ``Rainbow`` Lot 26B of LX-04-1, made to obtain a color and weight distribution in several samples, and also a color count made in each sieve on a granulation analysis, show each color to be equally distributed; i.e., {approx} one-third of each color, green, yellow and white LX-04-1 gran… more

Curves of Input Impedance Change Due to Ground for Dipole Antennas

Description: Report presenting graphs of the change in input impedance of electrically short dipole antennas in the presence of an isotropic and homogeneous ground which considers four types of antennas: horizontal and vertical, electric and magnetic dipoles. Curves of the change in both the input resistance and reactance are shown for a wide range of values of the frequency, antenna height above the ground, and electromagnetic ground constants.

Development of improved H.E. adhesive systems. Quarterly report for April--June, 1964

Description: A heat aging study in which tensile specimens (aluminum-to-aluminum and aluminum-to-LX-04-1 with Aerobond H-7) were heated to 165 F and aged up to three months has been completed. Aerobond H-7 showed no signs of deterioration when treated in this manner. Butyl glycidyl ether and benzene were tested as diluents for Aerobond H-7; butyl glycidyl ether is an effective diluent but benzene appeared to promote an exotherm. Water permeabilities were remeasured for Adiprene, Aerobond H-7, and Estane to … more

DEVELOPMENT OF PLUTONIUM-BEARING FUEL MATERIALS. Progress Report, January 1 through March 31, 1963

Description: Three batches of PuO/sub 2/ were prepared via the plutonium peroxide route. Except for the high tap density, it was found that the powder characteristics of PuO/sub 2/ prepared in this manner are similar to the characteristics of PuO/sub 2/ prepared by the oxalate route. Modifications were made to equipment for preparation of mixed oxides to achieve better reproducibility and minimize operator time. A study was initiated to assess the feasibility of using gamma spectrometry for rapid in-process… more
