2727-S Nonradioactive Dangerous Waste Storage Facility clean closure evaluation report

Description: This report presents the analytical results of 2727-S NRDWS facility closure verification soil sampling and compares these results to clean closure criteria. The results of this comparison will determine if clean closure of the unit is regulatorily achievable. This report also serves to notify regulators that concentrations of some analytes at the site exceed sitewide background threshold levels (DOE-RL 1993b) and/or the limits of quantitation (LOQ). This report also presents a Model Toxics Con… more

Analysis of BY-106 pump pit cover plate

Description: A new cover for the pump pit of Tank 241-BY-106 has been designed to allow the rotary core exhauster to be hooked up without requiring pit entry, riser modification, or equipment removal. The new pit cover is necessary to allow installation of two risers for reducing exposure, contamination, and waste. Computer analysis indicates that the safety margin of the pit cover plate with two risers is adequate. The computer stress model and input files are attached. The pit cover plate is a replacement… more

Analysis of lithofacies, petrology/petrography, and porosity/permeability of the lower green river formation: Willow Creek

Description: The 849.16 meter stratigraphic section was measured during consecutive spring field seasons. This section represents the ``lower`` Green River Formation which on the southwest flank of the basin rests stratigraphically above the dominant red beds of the Colton Member of the Green River Formation. The transition from Colton rocks to Green River rocks is gradual in the study area. Petrographic classification and textural analysis has been completed on 33 thin sections. These thin sections represe… more

Analysis of offsite Emergency Planning Zones (EPZs) for the Rocky Flats Plant. Phase 3, Sitewide spectrum-of-accidents and bounding EPZ analysis

Description: During Phase 3 of the EPZ project, a sitewide analysis will be performed applying a spectrum-of-accidents approach to both radiological and nonradiological hazardous materials release scenarios. This analysis will include the MCA but will be wider in scope and will produce options for the State of Colorado for establishing a bounding EPZ that is intended to more comprehensively update the interim, preliminary EPZ developed in Phase 2. EG&G will propose use of a hazards assessment methodology th… more

Analytical Tools to Predict Distribution Outage Restoration Load. Final Project Report.

Description: The main activity of this project has been twofold: (1) development of a computer model to predict CLPU(Cold Load Pickup) and (2) development of a field measurement and analysis method to obtain the input parameters of the CLPU model. The field measurement and analysis method is called the Step-Voltage-Test (STEPV). The Kootenai Electric Cooperative Appleway 51 feeder in Coeur d`Alene was selected for analysis in this project and STEPV tests were performed in winters of 92 and 93. The STEPV dat… more

Annual Energy Review 1993

Description: This twelfth edition of the Annual Energy Review (AER) presents the Energy Information Administration`s historical energy statistics. For most series, statistics are given for every year from 1949 through 1993. Because coverage spans four and a half decades, the statistics in this report are well-suited to long-term trend analyses. The AER is comprehensive. It covers all major energy activities, including consumption, production, trade, stocks, and prices, for all major energy commodities, incl… more

Atomic structures and compositions of internal interfaces. Progress report, September 1, 1993--August 31, 1994

Description: An atomic scale study was made of the Ag/CdO(222) heterophase interface produced by internal oxidation of a Ag(Cd) alloy, using HREM and atom-probe field-ion microscopy (APFIM). A study was commenced of interfacial segregation at metal/metal oxide interfaces; the system being studied is the Cu(Ag)/MgO(222) heterophase interface, where Ag is the segregating species. A study was made of the necessary conditions to measure the oxygen content in MgO precipitates produced by internal oxidation of Cu… more

CASIM input parameters for various materials

Description: During the past year, the computer program CASIM has been placed in a common area from which copies can be obtained by a wide array of users. The impetus for this arrangement was the need to have a standard code that could be maintained and transported to other platforms. In addition, an historical record would be kept of each version as the program evolved. CASIM requires a series of parameters (input by the user) that describe the medium in which the cascade develops. Presently a total of 9 m… more

Characterization of TNAZ

Description: The explosive TNAZ has recently become available in pilot-plant quantities. We have found its small-scale safety properties similar to those of other nitramines. Detonation calorimetry showed TNAZ to have 96% the energy of HMX and 150% of TNT. The shock sensitivity of neat TNAZ is greater than LX-14. A retonation wave was observed when the material was shocked at 2.0 GPa. The initiation behavior of neat TNAZ cannot be classified as either homogeneous or heterogeneous. Six plastic bonded TNAZ-ba… more

Design criteria document, Fire Protection Task, K Basin Essential Systems Recovery, Project W-405

Description: The K Basin were constructed in the early 1950`s with a 20 year design life. The K Basins are currently in their third design life and are serving as a near term storage facility for irradiated N Reactor fuel until an interim fuel storage solution can be implemented. In April 1994, Project W-405, K Basin Essential Systems Recovery, was established to address (among other things) the immediate fire protection needs of the 100K Area. A Fire Barrier Evaluation was performed for the wall between th… more

Design criteria document, Maintenance Shop/Support Facility, K-Basin Essential Systems Recovery, Project W-405

Description: During the next 10 years a substantial amount of work is scheduled in the K-Basin Area related to the storage and eventual removal of irradiated N-Reactor fuel. Currently, maintenance support activities are housed in existing structures that were constructed in the early 1950`s. These forty-year-old facilities and their supporting services are substandard, leading to inefficiencies. Because of numerous identified deficiencies and the planned increase in the numbers of K-Basin maintenance person… more
