CRS Reports Archive

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) is the public policy research arm of Congress. This legislative branch agency works exclusively for Members of Congress, their committees and their staffs. This collection includes CRS reports from the mid-1970's through the present, on a variety of topics - from agriculture to foreign policy to welfare. Reports can be searched in a variety of ways, or browsed by broad subject area.

Jean-Baptiste Lully Collection

The University of North Texas Music Library's Jean-Baptiste Lully Collection includes almost 30 rare 17th- and 18th-century scores of operas and ballets by the 17th-century French composer Jean-Baptiste Lully and his sons. Many of the volumes are 1st editions printed by Christophe Ballard, who held the privelège for music printing under King Louis XIV. Several are 2nd editions, printed by Henri de Baussen or Jean-Baptiste Christophe Ballard. The Collection also contains manuscript copies of operas and one ballet that were probably offered for sale, like the prints, at performances.

Miniature Book Collection

The Miniature Books Collection of the UNT Libraries grew out of a collection of children's books that were donated in the 1930's. It has expanded to include almost 2,000 items. In order for a book to be considered a 'miniature' it can be no taller than 4" (10 mm); our collection includes several items that are smaller than 1/4" (5 mm) and one item less than 1/8" (1 mm.) tall. The Miniature Books Collection contains items as varied as prayer books dating from the mid-1600's to books published this year. It covers a wide variety of subjects in many languages from countries throughout the world. The collection includes limited edition fine press works as well as modern mass-market publications. Our strengths include late 20th century Hungarian miniatures, 19th century children's Sunday school literature, and various publishers such as Somesuch Press, REM Miniatures, Achille St. Onge, Darragh Hunter, and William Pickering.

Portal to Texas History

In 2002, the Portal to Texas History began with a mission to provide three services: to provide a digital gateway to the rich collections held in Texas libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and private collections; to build tools to enable collaborative institutions to share their collections online; and to create learning materials and resources for students and educators. The online materials are freely available to the public, and encompass books, photographs, artifacts, posters, artwork, maps, letters, manuscripts, and other historic materials from over forty-five collaborative partners. Current content includes over 15,000 digital objects representing nearly 87,000 files of materials. Every month, over 35,000 people conduct research at the Portal or use the educational resources.

Texas Register Archive

This collection includes issues of the Texas Register from June 1991 to the present. "Established by the Texas Legislature in 1975, the Texas Register serves as the journal of state agency rulemaking for Texas. Information published in the Texas Register includes proposed, adopted, withdrawn and emergency rule actions, notices of state agency review of agency rules, governor's appointments, attorney general opinions, and miscellaneous documents such as requests for proposals. These rulemaking actions are codified into the Texas Administrative Code, also maintained by the Office of the Secretary of State."

Virtual Music Rare Book Room

The University of North Texas Music Library’s Virtual Rare Book Room is composed primarily of digitized materials held in the Edna Mae Sandborn Music Rare Book Room. The collection is particularly strong in eighteenth-century French opera, due in large part to the influence of musicologist Lloyd Hibberd on the development of the collection. In addition to holdings from the UNT Music Library, the Virtual Rare Book Room also contains some items that have been borrowed from private collectors and scanned with permission.

Willis Conover Collection

Willis Conover (1920-1996) was a jazz producer and broadcaster on the Voice of America for over forty years. A 1997 gift of the Willis Conover Jazz Preservation Foundation, Inc., the collection consists of over 22,000 recordings of all kinds, correspondence, memos, magazines, record catalogs, manuscripts, program notes, memorabilia, photographs, books, and other personal items. Many of the recordings and books are being added to the regular collection, cataloged in the main on-line catalog, and allowed to circulate. The archival and historical material will be made available as special collections.

World War Poster Collection

The Rare Book & Texana Collections includes among its holdings a collection of over 600 original World War I and World War II posters. The World War I posters include a number of French examples, while the World War II group consists primarily of American home front posters. The collection includes posters by such famous artists as Normal Rockwell, Theodore Geisel (better known as Dr. Seuss), and Boris Artzybasheff.
